New shots of the 14 gal. Bio Cube

June 29th, 2009

I snapped some nice photos, and wanted to share them with you.  The first is a close up of my “Camo” zoas.  (  I don’t know the exact name, they are not on ZoaID.com)

The second shot was taken from the left side of my Bio Cube, and shows most of my inhabitants.  It is now officially a frag tank. :)

Clowns started hosting in the anemone

June 29th, 2009

Awesome News guys and girls !!  My pair of black onyx clowns FINALLY started to host in the bubble tip anemone that I got from Dan.  This is a Happy day here in the 30 gallon tall.  The clownfish are all over the Bubble Tip Anemone, and the BTA stopped moving.  It has been sitting in the same spot for 3 days now, on the back glass, right under the filter.  It likes to stretch its tentacles up to the filter, and bask in the fresh water flow.  :)

At first, only Missy went into the tentacles.  Little Magellan was swimming all around, but never touched the BTA.  The next day, I saw them both flapping in the middle of the BTA’s tentacles.  I think they found an understanding.

Orange/pink Ricordea Florida or Fun w/ the new bulbs

June 24th, 2009

I went over to Dan’s house to help him replace his bulbs, and snapped a couple of nice photos of his rics.  He has an even bigger colony, so he is trading these.

I also took one with no flash, to show off the blueness of his new bulbs.  :)

I think he should write a post and tell us all about his new bulbs, and why he chose such a blue configuration, but he is too busy playing flash games.

A couple of notes to my little photo session: the clowns could not sit still, and i was wasting shot after shot.  I got a little discouraged, and tried to play with the settings on my camera.  The last few shots were taken with the “red eye reduction” mode of flash.  Its a two flash mode, the first fast flash gets the fishes’ attention, and on the second, the picture is taken.  It turned out, that that’s exactly what the doctor ordered.  :)

Ricordea Florida splitting

June 10th, 2009

My blue w/ green outer ring ricordea florida is splitting into two.  In about a week I should have two separate polyps.  I caught the moment with my camera, its kinda funny looking.

Beautiful website - Coral Morphologic

http://www.coralmorphologic.com

I stumbled upon this site while browsing the web, and I am amazed at the photograph quality.  All the pictures are of the highest quality.  Check it out, I’m sure you will love it.

I looked through the store, some very reasonable prices.  With today’s economic crisis, we are all looking for a bargain, and these guys are a bargain.

AneMon has moved into the shadows

June 8th, 2009

A quick update, my bubble tip anemone (aka. AneMon) has crawled into the shadow.  It took him two days, but he scooted all the way to the back wall, and then attached to the underside of the rock.  He’s currently attached upsidedown on the rock, near the back wall.  There is an opening, a couple of inches in diameter, I’m hoping he will be peeking out of that.

Neither one of my black onyx clowns has noticed it.  At least they are not showing that they have noticed it.  I really hope my AneMon moves onto the back wall, and scoots up.

Bubble Tip Anemone added to the 30 gal.

June 5th, 2009

Great News !!  My black onyx clowns will soon host in a real Bubble Tip Anemone.  Dan finally agreed to let me have one of his BTAs.  His original split a couple of months ago, and I got the smaller of the two.  I think his big one is about to split again.

Anyway, I will name this little guy AneMon, in honor of the BTA that went missing in my Bio Cube.  He’s still a bit messed up, but he is showing signs of life.  I placed him on a flat rock, right below the filter.  Hopefully, it will be a suitable spot.  If not, he will move.

New zoas added - GREEN

June 3rd, 2009

I am finally starting to see the fruits of my fragging labor.  Today I traded one of my blastomussa merletti frags for some green zoas and green mushrooms.  I felt like I was getting the better end of the deal, so I included some orange zoas.  Thanks Hayes !!  Everything is looking lovely.  I got the rock in my Bio Cube right now, there is a big chunk of polyps thats hanging off the side, and I’m thinking I will frag that before putting into my display tank.

Here is a picture of the new green zoas.

I finally put that dremel to use.  As of this second i have several small frags of blastomussa merletti available.  You can see some of my other stuff too.  I’m really proud of the velvety anemone mushroom that is hiding in the crevice on the right side of the top rock.  I will have to get a better picture of him, he is very cool looking.
